It is a good time to oil all the bearings at this point as they are not so easy to get to once the model is together
Take the small gear and collar off the third shaft with Allen key supplies, slide the shaft through the tender, re-attach collar then gear on the L/H Side, do up grub screw
Fit third shaft gear cover (SMALL) using bolts and spacers provided
Take apart rear wheel and axel assembly ON THE GEAR SIDE, you only need to take one wheel off, start by removing the brass hubcap, then remove the collar which is held in place by a grub screw
In a reverse to the above refit small collar, gear key and large gear on the L/H side of the tender. Attach gear cover (LARGE) to the tender using 2mm bolts
Put wheel back together and push drive pin through to line up all the plates, make sure you have the wheel the right way round, look for the lining to be on the out side!
Push Wheel back in to place, replace collar and hubcap
Take bolts out of perch bracket, align front axel saddle with smokebox, bolt together using stainless steel bolts supplied, fit all 8 bolts loosely and then tighten to get correct position
You should now be on all four wheels. You can remove the building jig. Turn you model on to its L/H side using soft cloth to protect the paint from any scratches. Put Stainless steel grate in to the boiler fire box, fit ash pan with the air hole to the right of the model, retain with 2 x stainless steel dump pins.
Oil winding drum pin. Put winding drum in place, gear to the top, put pulley assembly on and retain with brass bolt
Attach steering chain to front axle, be careful to wind chain in opposite directions on the steering shaft or the steering will not work!
You can adjust the length of chain by opening up the steering rod end and
moving the chain along a few links, the chain will stretch after a few uses and
may need adjustment Open up the steel link on the end of the Steering rod and push through the holes on the bottom of the front axel, squeeze the link together again with pliers.
Put flywheel on crankshaft, align with key and secure with grub screw. |
